Verdi, Nevada in 1870

From: "Greg Smith" perfectcomics@gmail.com

I'm working on a paper regarding the train robbery of 1870 outside of Verdi, Nevada. I was wondering if you might have or could direct me to information regarding the town of Verdi in 1870. Specifically, I'm looking for information regarding vital statistics i.e. population figures, life expectancy, etc.

Also if you are familiar with the politics of the town and the gossip within the city. What I'm also trying to write about is what life was really like for the inhabitants. ...

If one were to believe the 1870 census of Verdi, it consists of 160 pages of names, each page contains 50 names at maximum, some pages have fewer names listed. Verdi is listed with Crystal Peak; it would appear that the maximum population would be 8,000 (160 x 50).

I believe that the census information may be available online from the
Nevada State Archives website. For town gossip, you'll need to consult
period newspapers (most likely, Reno's) which may or may not be available
online, but certainly are available at the State Archives in Carson City,
and at the Nevada Historical Society in Reno.
