First tie plates

From: "Milepost Oneninety" milepost190@yahoo.com

When were the first tie plates used in the Donner Summit area? And, what sized rail were they used with?

I have read Chris' site in its entirety more than once ... Matter of fact I knew Chris (sorry to see him go) there is nothing on tie plates, hence my question.I found one that was recently dug up - very small ... It looks like it would fit 60 lb rail or so ...

This [see images above] was found at approximately mp178 on the UP Roseville subdivision, or at about Yuba Gap. It was dug up by crews installing a fiber optic line along the right of way.
BTW, I have lots of other artifacts ...
