Question – Railroad Ties
From: "Michael Cody" mcody@rushmore.com
On many railroad ties there is stamp in the end, letters and number. What do these mean?
Is there an internet site where a particular stamp can be checked to identify the stamp?
The letters indicate the location where the tie was treated (I believe PHY was for Pocatello, Idaho), and the other date is, I believe, the date the tie was treated. It was by individual railroads, so I doubt there is a site with all of the initials.
