"Jupiter" replaces damaged "Antelope" locomotive
Hi,
I like your website!
I couldn't find this in the faqs. what was the name of the Central Pacific train that left Sacramento towards Promontory Summit? I visited Promontory Summit and was told the original train crashed. And a replacement train happened. Not the Jupiter?
Thanks for this info.

The trains didn't have names, but the locomotives did.
It's a terrific story – read the first person account.
Also See the first large picture of the original locomotive #29 "Antelope" that was damaged and replaced by the Jupiter to pull Gov. Stanford's train the rest of the way on its trip from Sacramento to Promontory Summit.
