Railroad lines maps

Could you either provide or direct me to a resource on maps of railroad lines? We would prefer a book, if one is available, but would also be interested in individual maps.

... Any assistance you can provide me would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

The following book beautifully illustrates the fabulous Library of Congress historic railroad map collection:
Railroad Maps of North America: The First Hundred Years
by Andrew M. Modelski

The following book has numerous first person narratives of transcontinental rail travel in the 19th century with illustrations and selected maps:
RIDING THE TRANSCONTINENTAL RAILS: OVERLAND TRAVEL ON THE PACIFIC RAILROAD, 1865 - 1881.

Map dealer that sells individual maps.

Original and reproduction map auctions.

There were several competing 19th century rail guides (which include timetables and maps of the various railroads):
–Appleton's Railway and Steam Navigation Guide.
–Rand McNally Official Railway Guide.
–Travelers' Official Guide of the Railway and Steam Navigation Lines of the United States and Canada.

(These are all fairly rare, but with patience can be found for sale online using eBay.com or bookfinder.com.)
More information about these rail guides.

Also see the CPRR Museum's railroad map exhibit.
