Transcontinental Travel, 1880's
Can you tell me what the likely route and train would have been for someone traveling from San Francisco to Massachusetts in the year 1882/3?
I'm researching my family tree and know that my relatives traveled across country in the early 1880's and probably would have gone by train. Is there a website that would list fares, travel time and/or stops that would have been made on such a trip?
Also, did the railroads keep any type of passenger lists at that time?

Sorry, there are no railroad passenger lists, except for a few organized tours:
Boston to San Francisco, 1870. Boston Board of Trade
Transcontinental Excursion of Railroad Agents, 1870
George Mortimer Pullman Excursion. Across the Continent, 1869
For transcontinental railroad travel dates no later than 1873:
There is a book, "Railway passenger lists of overland trains to San Francisco and the West, (Ship 'n rail series)" by Louis J Rasmussen (Volume 1 only).
Also, "Railway Passenger Lists of Overland Trains to San Francisco & the West" Vol. 2: November 12, 1871 to April 23, 1873, Vol. 2 (1968)
