... based on Sacramento Union articles, as recorded by Gerald Best in his research notes ...
The first Pullman cars to reach Sacramento arrived June 10, 1869. They were sleeping cars Ogden and Pennsylvania, and dining car International. When they left June 19, Alfred Hart took photos of the cars, per the paper.
We know the dining car in the photos is the International. I suspect the other car in the photos is the Ogden, or maybe the Pennsylvania (this latter is referred to as an older car, so my vote on the photo is for the Ogden).

... Both photos are taken on the CP Sacramento wharf, in ... part under construction. Note also the ... photo ... published by Soule (of Boston) after his California 1869 visit, [which] also shows the wharf under construction.

I believe this photo was taken in Sacramento, CA, during the construction of the wooden platform structure over the banks of the "east side" of the Sacramento River.
The view is to the west. I wonder if the "old depot was still in operation during the construction? And, was this area later filled in with fill materials to create a levee? I don't have a date, but there must be others who have more info regarding this type of construction during the period.
