100 Years later: Golden Spike ceremony in May 1969

From: "Jim Vincent" pieijv@yahoo.com

I took part in the Golden Spike ceremony in May 1969. I was in the military and was part of the color guard. I believe John Wayne (actor) was there also.

Do you have any pictures or other things ...

You may want to take a look at the National Golden Spike Centennial Commission Official Publication "The Last Spike is Driven" [Cooley, Everett L. (Ed). Utah Historical Quarterly, Volume 37, Number 1, Winter 1969].

You are describing a novelty item – a spike made in about 1969 to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the first transcontinental railroad.
