Day of Mourning for Workers Killed or Injured on the Job"

But note the source, as this appears to be very misleading propaganda from the "Communist Party of Canada." The unstated premise that workers were killed due to prejudice and indifference is mostly untrue. Far fewer deaths occurred than is often portrayed, and they died doing hard manual labor mostly due to disease, conditions in the wilderness, and primitive technology, not from then preventable causes.

Any loss of life is tragic, but improving of worker safety has been one of the great results of economic advancement. Also, far more lives have been saved than lost due to the railroads both because rail travel is dramatically safer than by horse or wagon, and because railroads resulted in a great increase in economic output and a wealthier society that almost doubled longevity.
