The red background is a no no!!! Makes it very hard to read. Also, not good for those who are low vision. Please get rid of it!

The color scheme is explained on our Technical Notes page,
We like the red background which was chosen because it roughly matches the color of the Watkins stereoview cards (some other pages use yellow in a attempt to match A.A. Hart's stereoview cards), but you can select the background color that you prefer at the top of the page where it says,
"Background Color: Red Blue Yellow Black Gray White".

Subject: website background color
The background color on your site makes it difficult and possibly fatal to read the information you have available.
May I suggest adjusting your page's HTML code to change this color to something less saturated
A good hexadecimal code for your page might be #f2d4b9 (sort of a peach color)

I very much enjoy the information presented on your website but I have to say that your backgrounds are extremely distracting. It is very hard to read the articles with all the symbols and bold colors vying for attention in the background. ...

Thanks for taking the time to write and for your kind words about the CPRR.org website!
As far as the color of the background, the color was chosen to match an historic color used by the period stereoviews of the railroad. However, at the top of the pages where the background color is a potential issue, please see the choices of other background colors which you can click to select to suit your preferences (text and link colors also vary to better work with the chosen background color):
For example:
"Background Color: Red Peach Blue Yellow Black Gray White"
Regards.
Since only one person per million visitors is writing about this difficulty, hopefully having a problem with the webpage background color and not finding the ability to change the background color using the provided links is a rare problem.
Many people do not experience this issue, while some do, likely due to variation in the color displayed by different computers, and by the considerable variation in the way colors are perceived. There is much variation in color perception in part due to genetic variations in the chemicals used for color vision in the cones of the retina (some so severe as to cause "color blindness"), and also likely individual variations in the occipital cortex of the brain.
