CPRR Locomotive #317 ??

From: "Bill Metnik" bjmetnik@gmail.com

I recently acquired a metallic print of CPRR Locomotive #317 pulling a string of flatbed cars loaded with stage coaches. (See 2 photos attached). Was there such a locomotive or is this just an artist's rendition?

If this was a working engine, where can I obtain its history?

The picture is a fantasy creation which drew inspiration from some HO scale models brought in by Associated Hobby Manufacturers in the 1970s. There never was a Central Pacific #317.

Thank You so much for the info. I've spent hours searching for history on that engine. Now I know. I still think it is an interesting print. Our first railroad car carriers.

Again, Thank You very much for your quick response.

Hey Bill, I found the same train picture a few years ago. I was searching for info and this post popped up. Mine is not in a frame, it appears to be chalkware/plaster, metal or metal type paint over the v surface. Mine is etched, is yours? Sorry to bother you, but this is the first time I found anything on this.
