Sacramento Valley RR was 5 foot gauge, until 1866, after the Associates acquired it and converted it to conform with the Central Pacific.

Thanks,

Fact checking. Wikipedia had it at 5 feet 3.5 inches.

Southern railroads and the Panama railroad were also 5 foot gauge, and Lincoln came close to making the Transcontinental line 5 foot gauge. I wanted to make sure that Wikipedia had not found some strange and wonderful twist in the story.
