What's even more confusing than local solar time, which preceded railroad standard time, is that a speeding train leaves ambiguity as to what happened simultaneously, or which event happened first. And times slows with extreme speed, gravity slows down time, and time can even stop. Einstein worked this out, and lest you think that it would never affect you, the GPS in your cellphone or watch can't function without time correction using Einstein's theory of general relativity.
Another example, is that time on the International Space Station, does not proceed at quite the same rate that you experience on earth.
