SF&SJRR old stone culverts

I would like to locate some information (history) on the old stone culverts found a number of years ago along the right of way of the SAN FRANCISCO & SAN JOSE RR up in SF ?....

My name is Frank Maffei. I'm RR consolation to the Colma, California Historical Association. There are two culverts I know of. One in Colma, the other in South San Francisco. BART used the SF&SJ right of way for their tracks. The one in Colma was left in place, but extended on the West side because of the entrance, on north side, to station. The one in SSF was disassembled and put back in place when construction was complete. One in Colma is dated 1862, one in SSF 1863. ...

Try contacting Caltrans District 4 Environmental Branch in Oakland – they may have been involved in the environmental studies that covered the culverts. You'll probably have to work through the Public Affairs folks. Jack Gaines is the Public Affairs Officer who handles San Mateo County. You can e-mail him at jack_gaines@dot.ca.gov
