Does the Union Pacific have any plans to restore the second track at Donner Summit?

From what I have been told, indirectly, by executives of the UPRR, the answer is
"YES".

My understanding is that there will be single track only between Norden and Eder – through tunnel no. 41. Track will not be relaid through tunnels numbers 6 through 12. This was from a UP source a couple years ago.

In 1993, when the last revenue train went through the Summit Tunnel, was there any kind of public recognition of the event. I can't use the word "celebration," but the public and rail fans would have taken notice of the significance of the last train.

In our railroad histories, we always mark the "firsts," and it is often difficult to acknowledge the "lasts."

Hey, I'm not even sure if 1993 was the year of the last train. Maybe 1992?
