Nice report. I note with interest that Montague changed the route above Dutch Flat that Judah had laid out, and that Gray found the new route much superior. So in fact most to the CP/SP line on the Western slope does not follow Judah's survey.

While Gray credits Judah for the 68 miles of line between Sacramento and Dutch Flat, I wonder who really did the location – and what deviation there was between the location and Judah's instrument survey of 1861.
