Size of Original Construction Spikes

Could someone tell me the size of the Spikes used on the original Trans Continental railroad. I think I have one – it is a lot smaler than the ones used today.

Spikes smaller than those used by the railroad were used out west with the smaller rails used to move ore carts into and out of underground mines.
