John McQuarrie mural artist for the Mesa Railroad Station
I am doing some research on John McQuarrie. He apparently was the mural artist for the Mesa Railroad station built in 1931 Demolished in 1975. I am trying to find out if there is a record of his murals and copies. I would sure like to find a copy of the mural he did for the mesa station. It was centered around the Salt river Valley and conquest of the Indians by the Morman settlers. Any help would be appreciated.

Considering that John MacQuarrie also did the idealized mural in Southern Pacific Company's Sacramento, CA depot of the 1920s, I now wonder to what extent SP used the artist's services in other depots across its system. To this date, I was not aware of his mural work outside of Sacramento.

No record given of any list or depository of Johns paintings or Murals.
Thanks anyway.

I Work at "The Depot" in Salt Lake City, which is on the Historic Register, but is now a "Dinning and
Music Venue" However, the integrity of the ticket area is preserved. This area holds one of J.McQuarrie's murals, Mormon Pioneers with a team of oxen. If you are a fan and haven't seen this mural you should go! Mainly, because the people who people who pass under this artwork on a daily basis have no appreciation.
I feel that this peice of Americana is getting lonely, and the romance and charm of train travel is a dying.

I am trying to find information on J. MacQuarrie who painted the mural at the Salinas, California train station, dated 1941. Could this be the same one from Mesa, AZ? Anyone know how many train stations he painted murals in? Was he working for the railroad, or as a part of the TRAP project? Any info will help - it is for a public art informational brouchure about Salinas. Thanks!

I've been researching John MacQuarrie for 2 years. I have pictures of 7 of his RR depot murals. I'm awaiting pictures on 2 more and trying to find pictures of the 2 in Mesa that were destroyed when the station was torn down. I will be happy to share the information I have, if you are interested.
I also have pictures of 2 more murals in a church and in a theatre.

I'm standing here looking at two murals he did in 1941 in the Salinas, Ca train station
I'm here because on a recent trip to the San Jose RR station I admired the mural of a wedding party enroute via ox cart done by J. MacQuarrie. Indian guiding oxen and robed Franciscan priest accompanying the group. Beautiful work....I would love a copy.
Do they exist?
I am looking for photos or images of MacQuarrie's mural of the Southern Pacific Daylight traveling through the Salinas Valley. The original is still at the Salinas Amtrak station (along with a second MacQuarrie). Can't find anything by googling. This is for a project I am working on.
For the just-posted request for MacQuarrie's SP Daylight traveling through the Salinas Valley, please contact paul@cjc.edu. Thanks!
