From: "Eugene Luevano" e.luevano@verizon.net

... What happened to Gov. Stanford's private car? I saw the the Nevada State Railroad museum has a CPRR private car but it is not the "Stanford."

It burned June 27, 1911 in Amole, Arizona. See The Governor, Leland Stanford, page 1002.

To elaborate a bit more on Chris' info ... Jane Stanford sold the car to a private owner in Nevada shortly after 1900 (this from memory). Around 1910 the Southern Pacific purchased it back and converted it into a Division Superintendent's car, assigned to the Tucson Division. The superintendent's kid stored some 4th of July fireworks in the car, and they went off on a hot summer day, destroying the car.
