I noted with some interest the discussion re: Time Bands and how they were started ...
My understanding is that a fellow named Andersrag traveled by train from New York to Sacramento, and noted with some alarm that his watch said 12 noon in New York time, but was significantly out of whack with the sun in Sacramento. Hence, Mr. Andersrag (I recall his first name was Alex) studied the challenge, and came up with the current Time Zone solution. ( He, being of Swedish descent, called them Time Bands).
At any rate, these Time Bands came into fashion, and were known ever since as Alex Andersrag Time Band.
There, I've said it. Been wanting to get that out of my head for years ...
