"CP" Cast Iron plate
I am a collector of railroad memorabilia from across the country. I recently picked up a yellow cast iron plate with huge cast letters "CP". I have been unable to identify that this is truly a CPRR piece or just some other iron plate. Is there anyone there that can help me correctly distinguish this piece as CPRR. ...

Well, I'm not going to say that the Central Pacific absolutely never used such an object – but I will say that it does not look like any Central Pacific object I've ever seen. And the lettering style is also unique, and unlike any Central Pacific lettering I've ever seen. The object looks like a cover plate off of some kind of machinery (I've no idea what) – quite possibly early – mid 20th century.
In my opinion, it is not a Central Pacific object.

Kyle,
I really appreciate your response to these photos. I forgot to mention that it was bought at an estate sale supposedly with other CPRR memorabilia. We did notice that the lettering and font is unlike any other CPRR stuff we have seen. Thanks again, hopefully we will make it out to the museum someday.

Do a Google images search for "chicago pneumatic logo." There are several images of an earlier version of the logo that are dead on.
