"May 10th commemorates the 154th anniversary of the driving of the golden spike.

PROMONTORY – Hundreds of people attended the 154th Anniversary of the driving of the golden spike connecting the Central Pacific to the Union Pacific, creating the first Transcontinental Railway. The Golden Spike Association, National Park Service, and Box Elder County have honored the anniversary of the historic driving of the golden spike and completion of the Transcontinental Railroad for 70 years. The ceremony commemorates uniting the nation by rail with a reenactment of the driving of the last spike ceremony as it was done on May 10, 1869.
