California Zephyr

The last regularly scheduled passenger train down the Feather River was the California Zephyr – in 1970 when it ended service. Amtrak's route has always been over Donner, in part to serve Reno (which is not on the old Western Pacific mainline).

The mention of "old Western Pacific" does not refer to the 1860's Western Pacific Railroad of the same name which became part of the Central Pacific Railroad to connect west from Sacramento to San Francisco via Ferry Service.

Last eastbound California Zephyr thru Feather River Canyon was March 22, 1970; westbound March 23, 1970. I was a passenger on both and also rode first California Zephyr on March 20, 1949.
