RR construction photographs Sacramento River canyon from Redding to Yreka

From: "Angel Gomez" AGomez@ebglaw.com

Does anyone know of the location of any photos or other documents relating to the construction of the railroad up the Sacramento River canyon (from Redding to Yreka) in the mid-1880s?

Did the Southern Pacific itself maintain any historical photos in SF or some other location?

The Southern Pacific PR Department (among others) maintained files of historic photos – knows as the "X files," because their number system started with an "X". After the merger, these files were taken to Omaha, and I believe are now available from the Union Pacific Museum in Council Bluffs. I think a list of the photos (quite extensive, but not topically organized) is available on line.

And yes, I have seen at least a few photos of construction between Redding and Yreka.
